Home computer security should be the number one priority for all computer users. It does not matter if you use the computer for casual web browsing or if you own an online business, security for your computer is vital. There are so many unseen threats on the internet, and we do not all have the specialised knowledge to understand exactly what is going on.

Take for example a fake web site. If you do not have the right computer protection program on your pc you are vulnerable to falling victim to this kind of scam. Good internet software will alert to these scam sites and warn you to keep away. If you use online banking, protection from this kind of threat is essential.

Do not open emails if you do not know who they are from. That is my advice. Many spam emails have plausible subject lines and are tempting to read, but they are best deleted. If you do open them, be careful about following links contained in the body of the message. They could be sending you anywhere. Using the best virus protection software will help keep you and your data safe online.

Always scan email attachments before opening them. Many internet service providers have anti-virus software available to use as part of their email service to you, so you can check the attachments first, before opening, just to be safe. The safest course of action is to delete attachments if you are not expecting them and do not know who they are from.
Those Regular Security Updates

Be sure to keep your computer operating system up to date. Many of these updates are to do with security, so it is best to regularly check for these updates, or set your system to update automatically, if you trust them. Personally, I like to see what the updates are about first before I agree to install them.
